DUBROVNIK, Oct 25 (Hina) - A two-day seminar on anti-mine
activities entitled "Progress Within Conventions on Ban on Mines -
Achievements and Experiences in Southeast Europe" ended in
Dubrovnik on Friday. #L#
The seminar, organised by Croatia's Foreign Ministry, the Mine
Action Centre and the foundation for mine removal called "Mine-Free
Croatia", pooled about a hundred experts from Croatia and abroad.
Addressing the event, Croatia's Labour Minister Davorko Vidovic,
who is the head of the council of the Croatian Mine Action Centre,
said Croatia should be cleaned of mines by 2010. So far, over 80
percent of the national programme in this field has been
implemented with funds from the Croatian state budget.
In the past 50 years, about 400 million mines were planted in 90
countries. This is a global issue concerning the security of people
and the development of some countries.
