taken over upon the signing of the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction.
KNIN, Oct 23 (Hina) - Numerous foreign and domestic officials
attended the annihilation of mine supplies at a shooting range near
the southern town of Knin on Wednesday morning.
The procedure is part of Croatia's obligations taken over upon the
signing of the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use,
Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and
on Their Destruction. #L#
Croatia is one of the first 40 countries to sign and ratify the
convention which went into force in Croatia on March 1, 1999.
The document has been signed by 145 and ratified by 129 countries so
far.
Observing today's procedure, apart from government officials and
representatives of the ministries of defence and foreign affairs,
and non-government organisations were also military attaches and
other representatives from Italy, Canada, Bulgaria, Romania,
Australia, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Belgium, Slovenia,
Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Hungary and Russia.
