He confirmed that he had spoken to Croatian Prime Minister Ivica
Racan on the telephone on Tuesday for the fifth time, debating the
incidents which had taken place in the northern Adriatic's Piran
Bay over the last few weeks. The two officials agreed to meet soon in
order to defuse the situation.
Drnovsek reiterated that Slovenia attached great importance to an
initialled border deal with Croatia which Croatian expert and
political circles have lambasted.
Drnovsek recalled that the deal was initialled by the two
countries' prime ministers and okayed by both governments.
As possible solutions to the border issues, Drnovsek stressed
putting on hold the border demarcation issue in Piran Bay. He said
arbitration was last on the list as it would refer to the whole
border and take into account the initialled deal.
