ZAGREB, Aug 20 (Hina) - The Croatian True Revival (HIP)on Tuesday
called on Prime Minister Ivica Racan to submit his unconditional
resignation because, as the party claims, he allowed a dangerous
precedent in reference to Piran Bay and "contributed to incidents
which negate Croatia's sovereignty". #L#
Commenting on Monday's press conference by Slovene Foreign
Minister Dimitrij Rupel, the HIP said in a statement that by
initialling an agreement on the border with his Slovene counterpart
last year, Racan "unconstitutionally and without authorisation
attempted to cede part of Croatia's territorial waters to another
country".
The HIP notes that by doing so Racan provided the Slovene side with
arguments to claim Croatian territory and unnecessarily burdened
relations between the two countries.
"Since it is unthinkable in the democratic world for a premier to
act this way - to violate the Constitution and irresponsibly...
bring the country into a position it is currently faced with... it
is clear that Premier Racan, who has so often prided himself with
his democratic image and behaviour, is faced with but one solution -
an unconditional resignation," reads the statement signed by HIP
president Nenad Ivankovic.
Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel yesterday categorically
dismissed the possibility of new negotiations with Croatia about
the sea border, insisting that the concept of demarcation in Piran
Bay as envisaged in the initialled Drnovsek-Racan agreement
represented the Alpha and Omega for any possible solution to the
border issue and the founding stone for any future relations with
Croatia.
