Both premiers, the same sources reported, estimated that the recent
incidents in the Piran Bay were not useful to either side. They
agreed that a commission, in charge of the implementation a
temporary border agreement chaired by Olga Kresovic Rogulja and
Benjamin Lukman who discussed the fishing in border regions on
Wednesday, was the right place to resolve these issues.
According to unofficial sources quoted by Slovenian media
following the closed meeting between Lukman and Kresovic in Mokrice
palace, ideas were put forward to prohibit fishing in the
contentious section of the bay in an effort to avoid the escalation
of further incidents. Reservations were expressed in response to
this idea particularly by the Slovenian side.
A joint statement is expected Wednesday evening from the closed
meeting in Mokrice while Premiers Racan and Drnovsek agreed that
they would maintain contact in attempt to keep the current positive
level of relations between the two countries.
