An initialled agreement on the border can be a good starting point,
but the only thing the two countries can do at the moment is to agree
on whom to confide arbitration to, Juri stated in an open letter to
Drnovsek.
He cautioned Drnovsek that the current undefined state of affairs
in Piran Bay "could run out of control" and become even more
complicated as it appears that "matters are bordering on a serious
incident."
If it should come to that, Juri adds, Slovenia's position as
currently the best ranking country for accession to the European
Union could be undermined, and its relations with neighbouring
countries, with which is shares huge trade exchanges, ruined.
