LJUBLJANA, Aug 16 (Hina) - The opposition party called "New
Slovenia" on Friday asked the incumbent Slovenian Premier, Janez
Drnovsek, to cancel his initials on a border agreement with
Croatia. #L#
The party, led by a former premier, Andrej Bajuk, accused Drnovsek,
of neglecting the interest of his country to maintain the status of
a maritime country which it enjoyed while it had been a part of the
former Yugoslavia.
"It is evident that the (Croatian Premier Ivica) Racan government
wants forcibly to apply a stand from the Croatian parliament's
declaration of April 1999 and establish the police control until
the middle of the bay (of Piran). The incursions of Croatian police
in the territorial waters, which has to date been under the
Slovenian control, and making it impossible for fishermen (to fish)
testify Racan's reformed government's intention to achieve an
unfavourable situation on the sea for Slovenia in case that the
border issue should be settled before an international court or by
arbitration," read a statement released by "New Slovenia".
Bajuk's Democrat Christians urge Drnovsek to cancel a bilateral
agreement on local border traffic and cooperation, which has been
initialled and is in force, as well as the initialled border
agreement.
They also insist on a conference on the division of the Adriatic
Sea. A similar proposal was made by another opposition leader,
Zmago Jelincic, a few days ago.
