The Commission forwarded such an answer to Milosevic's Socialist
Party of Serbia, after being asked about its opinion on the
possibility of Milosevic's candidacy.
The Commission explained that Serbian Constitution does not allow
the possibility that some person can be more than twice in office as
the President of the Republic. Milosevic was elected for the first
time as Serbian President in 1990 and re-elected in 1992.
For the time being, Serb radical Vojislav Seselj is the only
official candidate whose candidacy has recently been confirmed by
the Commission.
Another possible candidate, Miroljub Labus, the incumbent Yugoslav
Vice Premier, is collecting the necessary 10,000 signatures of
citizens for his application.
The incumbent Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica expressed
willingness to stand for the election, however has not yet
officially announced his decision.
The deadline for submitting applications is 8 September.
