"The only way to solve it is the urgent apology from the Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) and negotiations on the frontier," DC
President Mate Granic said at a news conference on Tuesday.
DC Vice President Vesna Skare Ozbolt said Zagreb must demand of
Yugoslavia to launch an urgent probe in the incident.
On Sunday, Yugoslav border guards opened fire at four Croatian
boats rowing towards the Sarengrad islet on the Danube river and
then nabbed Croatian citizens and kept them detained for a few hours
in Yugoslavia.
Mate Granic told reporters that during his term of office as
Croatia's Foreign Minister, he three times agreed with Belgrade on
the start of negotiations on the demarcation of the border line
along the east frontier and by Prevlaka, but Yugoslavia had never
appointed its competent commission for this issue.
DC officials advocated the demarcation in accordance with the
findings of the Badinter commission.
Granic described Croatia's relations with another two neighbours -
Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina - as "being never worse".
"They (relations) are practically blocked. The incumbent
government failed to find the right way for negotiations with
neighbouring countries," the former foreign minister claimed.
He urged a strong diplomatic offensive of Croatia's diplomacy.
