Tomcic said he would not toy with ideas about solutions of temporary
character.
He informed reporters that earlier in the day he had held talks with
Premier Ivica Racan who notified him that he would offer
resignation. Tomcic added that they had not negotiated about the
position of the HSS in the future minority government.
In Tomcic's opinion, amendments to the law on government,
envisaging the reduction of number of ministries, would only slow
down the current government's efforts aimed at solving concrete
issues.
Tomcic said the role of the HSS would depend on the new prime
minister designate, and he thought that President Stjepan Mesic
would propose the incumbent PM to be the new prime minister
designate.
The HSS opted for the strategy of not searching for culprits for the
walk-out of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) from the
current ruling coalition and for not discussing the causes of the
problem.
For the HSS, it should be noted that the coalition has lost its
credibility and a new majority should be created which would not be
burdened with old problems.
The new government should totally be dedicated to the most
important issues in society, Tomcic said.
