ZAGREB, June 26 (Hina) - The Presidency of the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against party
member Ivic Pasalic due to his recent public statements which have
caused damage to the party's image, HDZ president Ivo Sanader told
Hina on Wednesday evening. #L#
After a session of the party presidency, which was held behind
closed doors, Sanader told journalists that "Pasalic told
potential HDZ voters that 'even if the party were to win the
elections, it would experience a fiasco', which prompted the
Presidency to take disciplinary measures against him".
Sanader said this did not necessarily mean that Pasalic would be
excluded from the party and called on him and all HDZ members to put
themselves at the service of the HDZ.
"Our goal is to form a future government in which the HDZ will be the
central party," Sanader said, adding that contrary to recent
speculation, there would be no room in the HDZ government for the
Social Democrats.
Unofficial sources reported that the decision to initiate
disciplinary proceedings against Pasalic was supported by eight
members of the party presidency, while three members voted
against.
The same sources said that the latest decision was an indication of
Sanader's desire to settle accounts with his main party opponent
for good.
