The Presidency of the Serbian ruling coalition DOS, that held a
meeting in Novi Sad on Monday evening, concluded that the future
constitutional charter of Serbia and Montenegro should comprise "a
model of a viable state community in accordance with principles of
European integration," said a DOS leader, Dragan Veselinov.
It will be possible to keep up the charter only if it is backed by all
the four chief sides - the DOS, Montenegrin President Milo
Djukanovic's Democratic Party of Socialists, Yugoslav President
Vojislav Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia and the Socialist
People's Party of Montenegro and if they take over the political
responsibility for its implementation, read the statement.
According to the statement, the constitutional charter should in an
adequate manner emphasise that Serbia, together with the
autonomous provinces of Vojvodina and Kosovo and Metodia, is
joining the union with Montenegro.
The European Union's High Representative Javier Solana on Monday
held talks with Yugoslav, Serbian and Montenegrin top officials in
Belgrade on the acceleration of bids to draft the constitutional
charter on the reorganisation of relations between Serbia and
Montenegro. The document should be drawn up by the mid-July.
