The senior party body also decided that all funds from the account
of a party foundation, which as of today bears the name of the first
Croatian president and party founder Franjo Tudjman, be
transferred into the state budget, to be used for the education of
war veterans' children.
The National Committee also appointed a commission which is to
investigate the circumstances of a conflict in the HDZ's branch in
Sibenik County and report about it at the next session.
Sibenik County prefect Baraka was relieved of duty on May 22 due to a
conflict in the party's branch in Sibenik, which holds the majority
of seats in the county assembly. Most HDZ deputies and three
deputies of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) voted for
Baraka's replacement. If the new county prefect is not elected by
June 22, the government will appoint its commissioner and call a new
election in the county.
The HDZ National Committee decided unanimously to endorse a
proposal by party president Ivo Sanader that the party presidency
prepare a plan for the next state elections within a month's time.
