ZAGREB, June 20 (Hina) - Customs officers will receive a bonus of 10

strike those state employees began on Thursday morning. #L#
"There is no more any legal basis for their strike," Finance
Minister Mato Crkvenac said at the government's session.
The government adopted a decree on jobs in specific conditions of
work in the state sector.
In addition to the decree, a wage-payment plan was drawn up by the
finance ministry and the plan would include a special appendix on
the rights of customs officers, Crkvenac said.
Under the government's decree, a wage supplement ranging from five
to 30 percent will be added to salaries of employees in other
categories in the state sector.
This right will be granted to some workers in the State
Inspectorate, in prisons, some workers aboard ships, divers, some
employees in the state weather bureau, fire-fighters and so on.
The government believes that the decree removed all the reasons for
the customs officers' strike.
Minister Crkvenac admitted that customs officers experienced the
difficult conditions while they did their job, but he warned them
that they had no right to harass citizens because of their
dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.
He called on them to try solve the problems during the negotiations
with his ministry and the government.
Premier Ivica Racan agreed that they had the right to strike but
said the customs officers should bear in mind the national and
material interests of the country.
On Thursday morning the customs officers began the two-day white
strike during which they would strictly apply all the regulations
and thoroughly check all vehicles and passengers at border
crossings.
Commenting on the strike, Premier Racan called on others who were
planning such industrial actions to take account of the state
interests.
In this context he warned of possible bad effects of work stoppage
on the tourist season.
A Deputy Prime Minister, Goran Granic, said the adopted decree had
been discussed with civil servants' union on Wednesday night.
He announced that in September the government would again analyse
the coefficients of salaries of the employees in the state sector
and the list of those who have the right to the bonus for specific
working conditions would probably be enlarged.
