four-hour warning strike at 9 am on Wednesday. #L#
The Croatian Rail Workers' Union (SHZ) and the Croatian Railways
Infrastructure Workers' Union include 3,500 of a total of 16,000
employees.
For the duration of the strike, they have discontinued work on the
technical inspection of trains, braking tests, and locomotive and
carriage maintenance, SHZ president Ivan Forgac told Hina.
Only 20 percent of passenger trains will operate until 1 pm, while
freight transport is entirely discontinued.
It is unknown how many workers are participating in the strike. A
press conference has been scheduled for 2 pm.
The unions say the HZ management has broken the law on safety in rail
transport by organising work during the strike as trains are
inspected by unauthorised persons.
Besides the strike, the unions announced a protest in front of the
government building in Zagreb at 11 am, as well as in other major
towns.
The unions demand that the HZ management act in line with a
collective agreement which should be in force since May 1, the
determining of an appropriate price for the working hour in the
inspection of carriages and the maintenance and technical
inspection of locomotives and carriages, as well as a ten percent
salary raise due to difficult working conditions.
The two unions threatened to undertake new actions unless the HZ
management accepted their requests and if the government okayed the
signing of what they evaluate as a discriminating collective
agreement recently initialled by four majority unions.
