ZAGREB, June 20 (Hina) - Croatian customs officers started their
two-day white strike at 8 am Thursday. #L#
Customs officers, dissatisfied with their material position, will
be on strike until 10 pm Friday, their union, which organised this
action, reported on Thursday morning.
In the said period the customs officers will strictly apply
regulations and thoroughly check all vehicles at border crossings,
which may considerably slow down the flow of cars through the
frontier, the union's leader, Zeljko Popovic said.
The strikers insist on a collective agreement, a wage supplement
for specific conditions of work, accelerated retirement scheme and
higher coefficients for salaries.
The union claim that the average salary of a customs officer
totalling 2,900 kuna (approximately 400 euros) is by 40 percent
lower than wages of other state employees.
