security in railway traffic during a strike on Wednesday, organised
by two railway unions, did not for one moment threaten traffic
security. #L#
HZ reacted to claims by unions that contrary to the law, the
employer had approved checks on wagons to be conducted by
unauthorised personnel and so threatened the security of railway
traffic.
HZ claims that the regulation stipulates just who is authorised to
check wagons if this cannot be done by the usual officer.
According to HZ, all passenger trains were on time during the strike
while four cargo trains were held up at the border in Dobova,
Tovarnik, Cakovec and Volinja because technical checks could not be
conducted.
According to current figures, 600 employees went on strike.
The strike organisers - the Croatian Railways Union and the Union of
Technical Overseers of Wagons and Trains claim that 95 percent of
their 3,500 members participated in the strike.
Union data indicates that passenger traffic was regular while the
majority of cargo trains did not run - only 2 of 15.
HZ employs about 16,000 workers who are grouped into about 12
unions. The four major unions recently initialled a collective
agreement while minor unions - the organisers of Wednesday's strike
- claim that their field of work - controlling wagons - had been
placed in a less favourable position.
HZ's board advised these unions to resolve their problems with the
remaining unions through collective agreements.
The board claims that 80 percent of employees are prepared to accept
the proposed collective agreement.
