PODGORICA, June 13 (Hina) - The Montenegrin parliament on Thursday
for the third time extended the deadline for the completion of work
of a parliamentary commission in charge of establishing the
veracity of articles in Zagreb's weekly "Nacional" about the
"Balkan tobacco mafia". #L#
The commission was established in the second half of last year, but
it completed its work with no concrete results, so the deadline for
the end of its work has been extended for another 25 days, at the
request of the commission's chairman, Vuksan Simonovic.
Podgorica's daily "Dan" has been fined with 15,500 euros after a
private lawsuit filed by Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic,
because it ran articles from Nacional about the Balkan tobacco
mafia, a Podgorica court reported. The court made the decision to
fine the paper stating that "information in Nacional are not
founded on credible sources".
On Thursday the daily wrote that a prosecutor from Italy's Bari
called on Nacional's director, Ivo Pukanic, to testify in an
investigation initiated against Djukanovic in connection with the
tobacco affair.
