Croatian parliament discussed a final bill on the prevention of
domestic violence. #L#
The bill regulates the issue precisely and envisages efficient and
permanent protection of those exposed to domestic violence,
placing emphasis on prevention.
The bill defines forms of violence which can be treated as criminal
offences and for which perpetrators may be sentenced to prison in
the duration of three months to up to three years. It includes the
possibility of temporary removal of the abuser from the family.
MPs warned that domestic violence was widespread and that every 90
minutes a woman was beaten up in Croatia.
