So far this category of workers actually could not acquire the right
to retirement pension as they have not worked 40 hours per week,
namely full working hours.
Endorsing the amendments, parliamentary benches expressed
confidence that the changes would to a great extent improve the
position of pensioners.
Under the amendments, part time employees can begin realising their
right to seniority pension when they meet other criteria, i.e.
after they reach a certain age and have been employed for the
certain number of years. The right to the retirement pension is
granted to men employees who are 65 or older and have at least 15
years as the length of service for retirement, while the age
criteria for women is 60 years and also the 15 years of the length of
service.
The government has assessed that 500,000 kuna (approx. 66,500
euros) should be secured monthly for this kind of pensions in 2003,
i.e. three million kuna (approx. EUR 399,000) for the entire year.
