ZAGREB, June 25 (Hina) - The Croatian government will tomorrow discuss bills relating to the family, protection from domestic violence, homosexual unions and the equality of the sexes.
ZAGREB, June 25 (Hina) - The Croatian government will tomorrow
discuss bills relating to the family, protection from domestic
violence, homosexual unions and the equality of the sexes. #L#
A bill on family will be forwarded to parliament without provisions
about the rights of persons of the same gender living together, as
their rights will be regulated by a separate law.
The government resorted to this solution after the Croatian Peasant
Party (HSS) remained fixed on its stand that same-sex unions do not
belong in a law regulating family relations. For the time being,
Croatia does not have laws regulating any aspect of homosexual
unions, which leaves this social fact out of normative force.
The separate law would define a homosexual union and, according to
the motion, the rights of such a union would include support,
attainment and regulation of property relations.
The bill will be sent to parliament into urgent procedure. The
government will also demand urgency for a bill on the equality of
the sexes, which envisages the founding of an office for gender
equality.
Parliament will be forwarded into the second reading final bills of
the family law and law on protection from domestic violence. The
latter would make it possible for the violent person to be removed
from the flat or house which he or she shares with the victim for up
to three months in especially violent cases.
