A special administrative department to provide for witness
protection and secure conditions for the implementation of the law
will be established at the Belgrade District Court.
The law is aimed at facilitating the processing of war crimes
suspects, as well as improving cooperation with the U.N. war crimes
tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague.
The law envisages the establishment of a separate prosecutor's
office for war crimes for the territory of Serbia and a service for
the discovery of war crimes, to operate as part of the Interior
Ministry. The prosecutor will be elected by the Serbian
parliament.
