The final decision on the referendum was not made only by the
Council of Croatian Public Service Workers Unions, which announced
that it would make its decision before the end of the week.
If 75 per cent of the 450,000 members of the five union federations
express their dissatisfaction with the amendments, the federations
will have to organise industrial action, including a general
strike, said the president of the Federation of Independent Trade
Unions of Croatia, Davor Juric.
According to Juric, the strike would be held on the day the
parliament takes a vote on the amendments.
The union leaders also demanded that the government forward into
parliamentary procedure by-laws defining compensation for reduced
workers' rights.
