The SSSH and NHS have thus joined the Croatian Trade Union
Federation which previously decided to organise a referendum to
decide whether to accept what social partners have so far agreed on
regarding changes to the labour legislation.
The final decision on the referendum - its date and the referendum
question - will be made by the executive bodies of all six trade
union federations at a meeting scheduled for May 29.
Negotiations on the Labour Act ended last Wednesday but several
questions remain disputable, including the number of persons a
small entrepreneur can employ and the number of workers'
representatives in private companies' supervisory boards.
The government, trade unions and employers have reached a
compromise on the period of notice, severance pays, temporary work
contracts, agencies for temporary employment and work at home.
The period of notice will be halved and severance pays will not be
decreased. Workers with more than 20 years of service will receive
compensation from the state.
The changes to the labour legislation, as announced by the
government's Office for Social Partnership, will be forwarded into
parliamentary procedure as early as this month, while the new
labour act, together with amended by-laws, should be adopted by
July 1.
