The social partners discussed imprecise formulations in the text of
amendments to the ZOR referring to unions' rights.
"We have removed the possibility of different interpretations of
provisions regulating unions' rights, and those segments will be
adjusted to European Union guidelines," the leader of the
Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH), Davor
Juric, said after the meeting in the government's offices.
On 27 May, when the Economic and Social Council is to convene, the
social partners -- the government, employers and unionists --
should mull over the final text of amendments to the ZOR. After that
the changes will be sent to the government and later into second
reading in parliament.
On 29 May, union leaders should decide whether a referendum should
be organised at which members of unions should voice their opinion
on the changes to the ZOR.
The amended labour act should be adopted by 1 July. The labour and
social welfare ministry will recommend to the government that the
application of reduced severance pays and shorter duration of
notices begin on 1 January 2004.
Labour Minister Davorko Vidovic has announced that his ministry
will hold a seminar on Monday to outline the new changes to the ZOR
in comparison to the government's initial proposals.
