The commission's chairman, Bozidar Rumenjak, said this at
Tuesday's news conference. He recalled that elections for members
of the councils and representatives of national minorities would
take place on May 18.
The most lists, i.e. three with 25 candidates each, for the election
of national minority councils, were submitted by the Romany
national minority.
Two lists were submitted by the Montenegrin minority and one each by
the Albanian, Bosniak, Czech, Hungarian, Macedonian, Slovene, Serb
and Austrian minorities. These minorities have 500 or more members
in Zagreb, apart from Austrians, of whom there are less, but they
will have their council only in Zagreb.
For elections for one national minority representative, the German
minority listed two candidates, and the Jewish and Ukrainian
minorities one each. These minorities have more than 100, but less
than 500 representatives.
The cultural and education association of Ruthenians and
Ukrainians in Zagreb jointly entered one candidate, a
representative of ethnic Ukrainians.
