positive minority discrimination. #L#
Speaking in parliament on Wednesday on behalf of the bench, Tibor
Santo said the government had announced that it would propose an
adequate solution to ensure positive minority discrimination,
however, parties that supported the government lacked the will to
include that issue in their bills.
Santo added that members of national minorities supported the
first-past-the-post system because they knew from experience that
that system ensured better representation.
In continuation of the parliamentary debate on the four election
bills, proposed by the Croatian Peasant Party, Social Democratic
Party, Democratic Centre and Damir Kajin of the Istrian Democratic
Assembly and Zlatko Kramaric of the Liberal Party, most benches
said the country's democratic and political stability required
that elections be held at least twice in a row according to the same
election law.
Several opposition parties proposed that the election law should
note the exact date of regular elections and that they should not be
changed before every election.
