The government endorsed HZ's business plans from 2003 to 2007 on
Thursday and forwarded them, together with programmes for the
financing and management over local railways, to parliament for a
debate.
According to Transport Minister Roland Zuvanic, the largest share
of investments will be used for railways included into pan-European
corridors (X, VB and VC corridors and the Zagreb-Split railroad).
The national network of lines will be modernised in order to meet
European standards.
According to the adopted plans, possible sources of funding, except
budgetary means, are additional taxes and charges paid for the
environmental protection.
This year, HZ will spend 3.7 billion kuna for investments and cut
the number of employees by 1,154 from a total of 16,081 workers. It
projects a 6.8 percent-rise in its earnings.
