ZAGREB, March 3 (Hina) - The Serb People's Party (SNS) president,
Milan Djukic, has appealed to the Croatian government not to adopt a
decision on dissolving the municipal council of Udbina. #L#
Djukic sent a letter to Premier Ivica Racan and the Minister of
Justice, Administration and Local Self-Rule, Ingrid Anticevic-
Marinovic, asking them to revoke a decision of 13 February on the
annulment of a session which the Udbina municipal council held in
December.
According to Djukic, the treatment of ethnic minorities has
considerably improved since the start of the term of office of the
Ivica Racan Cabinet, but the improvement has not still be
sufficient.
"The government is being duped by acts of provocation of the right,
and instead of condemning (...) every outburst of its hatred
towards Serbs as detrimental to Croatia, you accept it and point the
finger at Serbs," Djukic wrote in the letter.
The municipal council in this town in central Croatia has 11
councillors, and six (6) of them are SNS members, two are from the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), one each from the Croatian Peasant
Party (HSS) and the Croatian Christian Democratic Union (HKDU), and
one independent councillor.
The justice ministry has confirmed that due to irregularities and
failure to adopt a municipal budget for 2003, the dissolving of the
council has been instigated, and the proposal will soon be sent to
the government.
