announced on Monday that she would forward a new law on criminal
proceedings to the government this autumn. The new act should
envisage the transfer of investigations from court activities into
the scope of activities of police and the state prosecution. #L#
The minister announced the changes while commenting on yesterday's
statement by Interior Minister Sime Lucin who said that there were
delays in the elaboration of the amendments to the law on criminal
proceedings and that he would ask the government to cancel the
investigation proceedings carried out by courts.
The justice minister said today she was glad to see the interior
ministry accelerating the changes, as it was for her "an indicator
of the democratisation of the police ... that are trying to be
better connected with the State Prosecution so as to render the
criminal proceedings more efficient."
She also warned that those would be big changes requiring great
costs. The justice minister added that the new law on criminal
proceedings would entail changes in laws on police and state
prosecution.
