The ministry in cooperation with the "GfK" centre for market
research, conducted the sixth circle of the opinion survey on
citizens' stand on the country's association with the EU.
The opinion polls have been conducted every six months since June
2000, with a sample of 1,000 respondents from the whole of the
country.
According to the latest poll, 97 percent of adult Croatians have
heard of the Union. A high share of the respondents are in favour of
Croatia's entry into the EU, i.e. the share of those for the EU has
remained virtually unchanged with 75.5 percent of respondents for
the country's admission into the Union. A share of those against
Croatia's association with the Brussels Club is also on the rise
(the latest non-approval rate stands at 12.9 percent).
The overwhelming majority believes that the country will derive
benefits from its admission into the EU, and Croatians have lately
been better informed of the Union.
The latest round of this survey includes questions about NATO.
Thus, 96.3 percent of Croatians have heard of the alliance, and 61
percent of respondents support Zagreb's joining it.
The ministry presented two new publications: "Croatia on The Road
Towards the European Union: From Candidacy to Membership" and
"Europe in Croatia", aimed at providing information to the public
about Croatia's application for the full EU membership.
