On the basis of interest shown by all the participants, including
bidders -- Italy's Zinchitalia, Slovakia's Podbrezova,
Switzerland's Dufercoe and Austria's Olmax -- the government is
going to asses on Thursday which bid and solution is the best for the
plant and its workers, regardless of the fact who has given the
offer, Croatian Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic said on Tuesday.
Premier Ivica Racan on Monday announced the government's
discussion on the sale of the Sisak company for Thursday, and until
then the entire situation should be analysed and talks held with
possible partners.
Minister Jurcic said the decision on the contract on the sale of the
Sisak Ironworks to Russia's "Mechel" had been made without the
economy ministry and the government, but they would now try to
correct what had been done so far.
He added that the aim of the government's actions was to find a long-
term solution which would be the most favourable for the ironworks
and its 1,700 employees.
