clearing debt started in Moscow on Monday. #L#
Croatia's delegation at the negotiations is led by an advisor of the
Croatian National Bank Governor and authorised representative at
the committee for the division of financial assets and obligations
of the former Yugoslavia, Zdravko Rogic, and the head of the
government's office for the implementation of succession, Bozo
Marendic.
The negotiations are aimed at jointly establishing the real amount
of the Soviet clearing debt towards the former Yugoslavia and how
this amount will be divided among the successor countries.
The Russians, who called the meeting, claim the debt amounts to
around US$1.2 billion, while the successor countries say Russia
owes around US$1.6 billion.
The negotiations will last at least three days.
According to an earlier agreement, Croatia should receive around 24
percent of the overall clearing debt of the former Soviet Union.
