Minister Andro Vlahusic said after the negotiations he did not know
what was going on as the union would not accept any offer made by the
government.
The government cannot consent to a 45 percent pay increase for
doctors but is offering one of ten percent, payment for special
working conditions, the passing of a branch collective agreement
with an annex on doctors' rights, and the union's participation in
the passing of a law on doctors, said the minister.
He said his authority in terms of negotiations was quite broad, and
assessed that doctors' salaries were not small, the average being
10,000 kuna and more than half earning more.
Vlahusic said he did not understand the union's demands and
estimated they were politically motivated.
Union president Ivica Babic said no agreement had been reached
today and that the strike was on. He added attempts were being made
to resolve the union's demands within realistic possibilities.
