The Croatian Doctors' Union (HLS) leader, Ivica Babic, on Thursday,
announced that the union could accept a compromise of a 28-percent
rise, if the Ivica Racan Cabinet immediately start the agreement
signing procedure.
At today's news conference, Minister Vlahusic said that the strike,
which began yesterday, had failed, since only five percent of
doctors employed with hospitals went on it.
He added that in the Osijek clinical hospital, doctors had joined
the action in a larger number, while most of other hospitals and
clinics in the country worked regularly.
On Wednesday the health ministry received complaints from three
patients about inadequate treatment in hospitals due to the
strike.
The ministry has opened telephone lines for complaints of
citizens.
The regular negotiations on a basic collective agreement resumed in
the ministry on Thursday, and the document, according to Vlahusic,
is likely to be signed by the end of this month.
