The strike began on January 15 and the doctors' union demands an
increase in interns' wages amounting to two average wages (7,000
kuna) and in specialists' wages to 9,000 kuna.
Health Minister Andro Vlahusic claims that the union is
blackmailing the government by insisting on a 45 percent pay rise
for doctors and refusing to accept a compromise.
The government is offering a ten-percent increase, payment for
special working conditions, the adoption of a branch collective
agreement with an annex on doctors' rights, and the union's
participation in the passing of a law on doctors, said the
minister.
