ZAGREB, Jan 20 (Hina) - Labour and Social Welfare Minister Davorko
Vidovic will on Tuesday acquaint the ruling coalition's
parliamentary benches with a bill of amendments to the Labour Act,
the Labour Ministry reported on Monday. #L#
Vidovic will inform MPs of the announced changes which have
provoked severe criticism of trade unions.
The five Croatian union federations threaten to organise a general
strike if the government persists with its draft amendments which
envisage cuts in severance pays, shorter periods of notice, equal
conditions for part-time and full-time employment and larger
number of jobs to be created in small businesses.
The labour ministry says the draft amendments, which will be sent
into the parliamentary procedure in two weeks, can help bids aimed
at the reduction of unemployment, render the labour market more
dynamic and preserve the level of social security.
