Social Liberal Party (HSLS) has stated that the strike of school
staff scheduled for 15 January is logical and justified. #L#
By granting a selective and insignificant increase in the salaries
of school employees, the government has challenged the union which
represents the interests of all of its members and the union's
reaction is only logical and justified, the party said in a
statement.
The HSLS wonders why the government has approved a selective
increase in the salaries of school staff but refused to raise
doctors' salaries.
Before the adoption of the state budget for 2003, the government and
unions reached agreement on a wage increase, however, once the
budget was adopted, only the salaries of teaching staff and
principals were raised, the party said.
The government has gone back on its agreement with union
representatives, the party claims, adding that the government has
also failed to improve the financial situation in the education
system, which was one of its election promises.
