ZAGREB, Jan 7 (Hina) - The Independent Union of High School
Employees of Croatia on Tuesday announced a day-long strike in high
schools and student dormitories to take place on January 15. #L#
The strike in high schools will be held in the first week of the new
semester, simultaneously with a five-day strike in elementary
schools, to be organised by the Croatian Teachers' Union between
January 13 and 17.
The unions will organise the strike because the additional 200
million kuna of budgetary funds earmarked this year for the
education system will be used to increase the wages of teachers,
while the wages of non-teaching staff will not be raised.
Education Minister Vladimir Strugar said today that the strike in
elementary and high schools was unjustified and its aim "completely
unclear".
