ZAGREB, Nov 5 (Hina) - The Council for the Civilian Supervision of Security Services on Friday considered, without reaching a conclusion, a complaint filed by journalist Helena Puljiz, who claimed that the Counterintelligence Agency (POA) interrogated, blackmailed and offered her cooperation.

Council deputy chairman Krunoslav Antolis told the press after the closed-door meeting that certain conclusions were reached as to how to proceed with Puljiz's complaint. He added the council would contact POA for additional information and interview Puljiz again.

Antolis said the council interviewed Puljiz once and "did a check" at POA after receiving Puljiz's letter, but declined to elaborate.

Asked if some conclusions would be sent to the parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs and National Security or President Stjepan Mesic, Antolis said no reports would be made until the council finished processing the complaint.

He also declined to say if apart from the complaint, the council also had the tape of Puljiz' interrogation by POA.

The chairman of the parliamentary committee, Ivan Jarnjak, declined to comment on the case until the council adopted a final conclusion, which he expects next week.

Under the law, if it is established that security services have broken the law Antolis has to notify the president of the republic, the parliament speaker, the prime minister and the chief state prosecutor of the results of the investigation.

In her October 15 complaint, freelancer Puljiz said that POA interrogated her for five hours earlier that month about a former presidential aide and her journalistic work. She claimed attempts were made to blackmail and bribe her, that she was asked about the most intimate details of her private life and was offered cooperation with POA.
