SABOR ENDS THIS WEEK'S SITTING, TO RESUME WORK NEXT WEDNESDAY

ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - The electronic voting system in the Croatianparliament was fully operational for the first time on Friday.
ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - The electronic voting system in the Croatian parliament was fully operational for the first time on Friday.

Using the system, MPs endorsed a Democratic Centre (DC) bill on changes to the Law on the Lease of Business Premises and denied support to a Croatian People's Party (HNS) bill regulating the same matter.

The parliament supported proposals by the government and the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) to establish a memorial and documentation centre of the Homeland War, an institution which would archive, document and research all facts relevant for the truth about the Homeland War.

The government was bound to draw up the final version of the bill in cooperation with the HSP.

The parliamentary majority rejected Libra's bill granting suffrage to persons at the age of 16, as well as the party's bill proposing amendments to the Law on VAT to exempt blind and sight-impaired persons from paying VAT.

The Sabor also rejected the HSP's bill on changes to the Law on Property and Other Legal Matters to save islands from sale.

During a previous debate on the bill, MPs warned about the untenability of some proposals in the bill, like the one banning foreign nationals, as well as Croatian citizens, from acquiring ownership of islands and cliffs which are considered to be of strategic interest, and to carry out the dispossession of those who have acquired such ownership.

The parliament adopted several reports, including one on the 2003 de-mining plan, thus completing this week's sitting. It will resume work next Wednesday.
