ZAGREB, Sept 15 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament wrapped up the first day of its tenth session with a discussion on draft amendments to the family law which envisage postponing the transfer of family disputes from social welfare centres to so-called family courts until the beginning of 2006.

The government justified the postponement with the fact that courts were not yet prepared to take over cases from social welfare centres.

The draft amendments were slammed by opposition members of the parliament.

Earlier in the day MPs discussed draft laws on the ratification of several international protocols, including an agreement on privileges and immunity of international criminal courts.

Slaven Letica of the opposition Croatian Party of Rights suggested postponing a discussion of the above-mentioned agreement to the end of the year so that "the Sabor can show a minimum of self-respect at a time when the Hague tribunal shows that it does not regard the Croatian government as credible since it refused to grant provisional release to generals Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac."

The Sabor will resume the session tomorrow morning.
