Speaking to reporters after the session, chairman Gordan Jandrokovic said the committee most vehemently condemned the incident which saw 12 Slovene nationals illegally crossing the state border in an attempt to avoid border control, entering about 150 metres into Croatia, and refusing to act on police requests and produce identification.
Jandrokovic said the committee unanimously adopted a set of conclusions after being informed in detail about the incident by representatives of the government and competent state bodies. He added the conclusions were a response to the unusual communication by the chairman of the Slovene Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The conclusions support the statements about the incidents by the presidents of the republic and parliament and the prime minister, as well as the activities of the interior and foreign ministries in connection with the matter.
Jandrokovic said the committee completely rejected the position of the Slovene government and the statements by Slovene MPs which question the land border and Croatia's sovereignty over the Buje Municipality hamlets of Mlini, Buzini, Skrile and Skudelini because, he added, said hamlets were indisputably on Croatian soil.
The committee also rejected the condemnation of the usual and legal conduct of the Croatian police, particularly threats that charges would be pressed against Croatian police who were enforcing Croatian laws on Croatian soil.
The committee fully rejected the position of Slovene officials linking Croatia's European Union integration to the settlement of bilateral issues, as well as statements labelling legitimate police activity as an attack on the EU.
The committee assessed the announcement that Slovenia would discontinue its support to Croatia's EU entry negotiations represented an "action without precedent in EU enlargement practice", and once again called for restraint on Slovenia's part and the resumption of dialogue on outstanding issues.
Today's session was attended also by the state secretary at the Foreign Ministry, Hido Biscevic.
