ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament on Thursday resumedits session with a debate on a report on the implementation ofCroatia's demining plan and finances spent for the removal of mines in2003.
ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament on Thursday resumed its session with a debate on a report on the implementation of Croatia's demining plan and finances spent for the removal of mines in 2003.

According to the report, the number of mine victims dropped in relation to previous years.

State Secretary in the Interior Ministry Ivica Buconjic said there were seven mine accidents last year which claimed the life of one person. Four people, of whom three are mine removal experts, were severely injured and four suffered light injuries.

A total of 210.8 million kuna were earmarked for the implementation of the plan, under which demining inspection was conducted in 14 of 21 counties, that is 111 municipalities and towns, but only 195.5 million kuna were spent.

Last year a total of 27,859 explosive devices were discovered.

The mine removal project was carried by 24 companies and one non-governmental organisation with a total of 587 mine removal experts,41 machines and 104 dogs trained for detectine explosive devices.
