Austrian State Archive director Lorenz Mikoletzky said the exhibition was the first step in cooperation between the two countries' state archives, and announced negotiations on the possible return of part of the Croatian archive material.
For the first time, the display features more than 100 exhibits from the Austrian archives, including original reports, letters, international treaties, and maps.
Croatian Ambassador to Austria Drazen Vukov Colic welcomed the Croatian-Austrian agreement to resume after a long time negotiations on the restitution of some important parts of the Croatian state archives.
The exhibition was organised by the Croatian Embassy in Vienna, the Austrian and Croatian State Archives, the Croatian History Institute, and the Croatian Scientific Institute in Vienna.
In attendance were numerous dignitaries, including Croatia's ambassador to the OSCE, UN and international organisations, Vladimir Matek.
