ZAGREB, Sept 23 (Hina) - The head of the Serb People's Party (SNS), Milan Djukic, has stated that the rights of Croatian Serbs were still being violated and that there was lack of political will to protect them.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, the Serb leader also supported former employees of the "Borovo" footwear factory, most of whom are Serbs, in exercising their rights.

Djukic said that MPs of the Independent Serb Democratic Party (SDSS) - Vojislav Stanimirovic, Milorad Pupovac and Rade Gajica "are political amateurs who were used as false witnesses to the alleged absence of ethnic discrimination against Croatian Serbs".

He went on to say that the coalition agreement signed by PM Ivo Sanader and Milorad Pupovac annulled the Serbs' constitutional rights because it set deadlines for the restitution of their property, which he said was humiliating.

The process of reconstruction has come to a halt, around 7,000 houses have still not been returned to their owners, although the coalition agreement set the end of this year as the deadline for property restitution, he added.

Djukic went on to say that the competent ministry had reported that some 5,000 houses would not be returned to their owners because the owners failed to submit repossession claims.

He also warned that none of the 22 million kuna ensured for housing accommodation had been used for that purpose and that the Law Adjustment Act was not being implemented, as well as that 3,000 Croatian Serbs had been sentenced in absence for war crimes without the possibility of retrial.
