BELGRADE, Sept 23 (Hina) - Montenegrin representatives in Serbia and Montenegro's National Council for Cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) have resigned from their posts, Human and Minority Rights Minister and Council chairman Rasim Ljajic told Radio B92 on Thursday.

The Montenegrin members of the Council have resigned because 20 days after the last session there is still no progress in meeting obligations towards the UN war crimes tribunal, Ljajic said, adding that this primarily referred to the hand-over of Goran Hadzic and Ratko Mladic and three generals indicted last year on command responsibility with war crimes in Kosovo.

A member of the Council and Montenegro's Deputy Foreign Minister, Predrag Boskovic, said after the last session on September 2 that Montenegrin representatives would reconsider their future membership of the Council if no progress was made in the hand-over of the indictees in the following two weeks.

The Council will convene on September 30 and the chief prosecutor of the UN tribunal, Carla del Ponte, will visit Belgrade on 4 October, Ljajic told Belgrade's Danas daily of Thursday, adding that del Ponte had already announced one more indictment.

For the Council to make decisions, it needs the votes of both sides and it will be blocked if Montenegrin representatives decide to stick by their decision.
