ZAGREB, Sept 14 (Hina) - Deputies of the Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ) sitting on the Parliament's Committee on Human and Minority Rights on
Tuesday criticised Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) for sensationalist and
negative reporting, claiming that the national broadcasting corporation
criticised the government and favoured the opposition. In a debate on a report of the HRT Programmes Council and the
implementation of programming principles defined by law, Stjepan Bacic and
Ivana Sucec Trakostanec of the HDZ said that the HRT news desk was criticising
only the government, while reports about the opposition were positive.
Sucec Trakostanec also objected to the selection of news, calling on HRT
director Mirko Galic to "try to have news editors rise above their personal
views in selecting news".
Deputies of the Independent Serb Democratic Party (SDSS), Milorad
Pupovac and Ratko Gajica, objected to what they said was poor representation of
minority issues and one-sided reporting.
