BELGRADE, Sept 13 (Hina) - The foreign minister of Serbia-Montenegro has written to the European Union's Council of Ministers chairman, Dutch Foreign Minister Bernard Both, that there is no state strategy behind individual inter-ethnic incidents in Vojvodina, the foreign ministry in Belgrade reported on Monday.

"Regarding the rights of Hungarians in the Serbian province of Vojvodina, I assure you that there is no state-orchestrated strategy behind individual incidents and that isolated acts of violence, verbal assaults and various graffiti do not undermine traditionally good and harmonious relations between Serbs and Hungarians as well as other ethic and religious communities," Minister Vuk Draskovic wrote in the letter.

He also expressed his fear of "the possibility that unnecessary exaggerations and politicisation of isolated incidents, which deserve to be condemned, can produce real inter-ethnic tensions, which do not exist now".

He added that the Council of Ministers of Serbia-Montenegro and all democratic forces "are committed to the principle of maximum respect for minority rights".

The assembly of this state union stated on Monday that its delegation would attend on Tuesday a session of the political affairs committee in Strasbourg which is expected to raise the question of the position of the Hungarian minority in Vojvodina.

At the request of the Hungarian government, EU foreign ministers on Monday will discuss the incidents when ethnic Hungarians were attacked in Vojvodina.

Last week, Belgrade expressed its opposition to attempts that incidents in Vojvodina be internationalised, claiming that all those cases were isolated incidents.
