ZAGREB, Dec 10 (Hina) - About 2,000 Democratic Centre (DC) delegates re-elected Vesna Skare-Ozbolt party president at a convention in Zagreb on Saturday.

Josko Moric was re-elected vice president, Radovan Fuchs and Djurica Misin were elected vice presidents, and five new members were elected to the party Presidency.

Speaking of Wednesday's arrest of Croatia's most wanted war crimes fugitive, Ante Gotovina, Skare-Ozbolt said her party was convinced he was innocent and that it was ready to help in proving this before the Hague tribunal and not in the streets.

"Even in the Homeland War there were those who shouted in the streets while others defended the country. Now too there are those who will shout in the streets, while those others will defend Gotovina and the truth about the Homeland War," she said and received an applause.

Skare-Ozbolt said the DC had not nor would ever defend someone who committed a crime, but would fight against a revision of Croatian history by having the truth about the Homeland War defended at the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

"The DC calls for the consensus of all in Croatia to shed light on everything, in court. This isn't just the case of one or more generals, this is a question of theses in the indictment about a joint criminal enterprise, about ethnic cleansing and similar unacceptable theses which attempt to alter the truth about what happened in Croatia," Skare-Ozbolt said.
